On February 28, 2024, 38-year-old John Anthony Lowden Jr., a retired U.S. Army veteran, was found dead in the middle of Washington Road in Augusta, Georgia. The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. when police responded to a call about shots fired at the intersection of Washington Road and Boy Scout Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Lowden lying in an eastbound lane with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate attention, Lowden died at the scene.
