In the spring of 2024, a gathering on Cedar Avenue in Macon, Georgia, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 36-year-old Gregory William Thomas. On the evening of Sunday, April 14th, Thomas was attending a get-together at a duplex. He was seated on the front porch when the sound of gunshots suddenly rang out. When police and paramedics arrived, they found Thomas with gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead by the hospital staff.
Known affectionately as 'Greg' or 'G Code' in his neighborhood, Gregory William Thomas was a man who was deeply connected to his family and community. A former student of Central High School, he was working with his cousin's commercial cleaning business at the time of his death. Friends and family remembered him as someone who could always be counted on for support, whether it was attending his nieces' school events, helping people move, or lending a hand with painting and yard work. He was a loving father to his two daughters, Loyalty and Amiyah.
The investigation into the shooting led the Bibb County Sheriff's Office to a suspect. On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, authorities arrested 39-year-old Willie Hogabbrook at a residence on Pinedale Drive. Hogabbrook was subsequently charged with the murder of Gregory William Thomas. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond as the legal proceedings in this case continue. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by investigators.
