On a Saturday evening in Snellville, Georgia, a tragic incident cut short the life of Banchamlak Abuhay Bogale, a 50-year-old Black female. The events unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on June 8, 2024, in the 3500 block of Stone Mountain Highway, where Bogale was fatally shot. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Bogale was pronounced dead from her injuries.
Witnesses at the scene reportedly subdued the alleged shooter, 67-year-old Abera Ayana of Stone Mountain.
Their quick actions prevented him from leaving before police arrived. The Gwinnett County Police identified the shooting as a domestic-related incident.
Following the investigation, Abera Ayana was taken into custody and faced multiple charges in connection with Bogale's death. These charges included malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
