On August 11, 2024, 11-year-old Makenzie Briddy was tragically shot and killed in what DeKalb County police are investigating as a murder-suicide. The incident occurred at the Polo Club Apartments on Ashley Creek Circle in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Makenzie was found dead along with her mother, 31-year-old Qiana Rainley, who is believed to have shot her daughter before turning the gun on herself.
