On August 26, 2024, a double shooting occurred in a Mableton neighborhood, resulting in the death of 34-year-old David Brooks. The incident took place along Denny Lane near Boggs Road, where Cobb County police responded to a call around 2:11 p.m. regarding a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found two men with gunshot wounds: David Brooks and 65-year-old Stephen Hulsey, both residents of Mableton.
