In the early evening of March 7, 2023, a burst of gunfire in the 2700 block of Bruce Place, Southeast, Washington, D.C., set in motion a tragic series of events that would leave two young men dead. When Seventh District officers arrived at the scene around 7:44 p.m., they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them, 23-year-old Dana Faulkner, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later, police received a report of an unconscious person about a mile and a half away at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Mississippi Avenue, Southeast. There, they found 15-year-old Abdul Fuller, a male resident of Southeast, DC, with critical gunshot wounds. Fuller was rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries two days later, on March 9, 2023. Investigators later determined that he had been shot on Bruce Place along with the other victims. Reports from witnesses indicated that they saw Fuller fall out of a gray car at the Mississippi Avenue location.
The investigation into the double homicide led detectives to identify suspects allegedly involved in the shooting, which was believed to be connected to a dispute between neighborhood crews. On December 21, 2023, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 19-year-old Kevin Foster of Northeast, DC. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed.
Further investigation led to the identification of a second suspect, a 17-year-old male from Northeast, DC. He was apprehended in Jacksonville, Florida, and extradited to Washington, D.C., on June 21, 2024. Upon his return, he was charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with Dana Faulkner's death. Prosecutors have put forth a theory that Foster was the driver during the initial shooting and that Fuller was in the vehicle during a subsequent shootout with another car, which resulted in his death. Social media videos reportedly showed Foster and Fuller together before the incident. The case against both suspects is ongoing.
