In the summer of 2023, a wave of violence struck Washington, D.C., and among the victims was a young man named Nijae Boddie. On the night of Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the 19-year-old male was in the 1900 block of 16th Street, Southeast, when the sound of gunshots pierced the air at approximately 10:00 p.m. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to the scene where they discovered Boddie suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services were
dispatched, and Boddie was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The incident was one of several shootings that occurred in the city that night, contributing to a grim tally of violence that troubled the community.
Detectives from the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched an investigation into Boddie's death. In the days following the shooting, the police department appealed to the public for assistance, seeking any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible. A substantial reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the homicide. As of the latest available information, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests had been announced in connection with the shooting.
