On the evening of July 17, 2023, Robert Lavender, a 44-year-old man, was resting on a bench in the 600 block of Monroe Street, Northeast, in Washington, D.C., after finishing his shift as the manager of the BGR 'Burgers Grilled Right' restaurant near Catholic University. While waiting for a ride home, he was approached by two individuals who had agreed to rob him.
