On the evening of August 5, 2023, 27-year-old Tymea Cook was fatally shot in a mass shooting on Good Hope Road in Southeast, Washington, D.C. The incident, which occurred around 8:22 p.m., resulted in the deaths of two other individuals, 35-year-old Bernard Hodges and 34-year-old Reginald Gilbert, and left two other men injured. Emergency services responded to the scene and pronounced Cook, Hodges, and Gilbert deceased.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an
investigation into the triple homicide. In the course of their investigation, they identified a suspect and sought public assistance in locating both the suspects and a vehicle involved. A significant reward was offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
More than two years after the tragic event, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, an arrest was made in connection with the killings. Members of the Violent Crime Suppression Division's Robbery Suppression Unit apprehended 28-year-old Rahsaan Smith of Southeast, D.C. Smith has been charged with three counts of First-Degree Murder While Armed under a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant.
