In the spring of 1968, a young woman named Karen Rena Hawkins, affectionately known as 'Peaches,' disappeared from her Washington, D.C. home. On May 17th, the African-American female vanished from the 2400 block of 18th Street, NW, sparking concern and a search for her whereabouts. Tragically, a few days later, her body was discovered in the basement of a building at 2526 17th Street, NW, a short distance from where she was last seen.
