In the Kingman Park neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., on the night of November 12, 2023, a violent encounter left two men shot inside a residence on F Street. The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:06 p.m., prompted a swift response from Fifth District officers of the Metropolitan Police Department. Upon their arrival at the 1500 block of F Street, they discovered the grim scene.
One of the victims, a 31-year-old Black man named Leon Carter of Northeast, D.C., was
found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 43-year-old Keith Lawrence of Southeast, D.C., was also found with critical gunshot injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Lawrence succumbed to his injuries two days later, on November 14, 2023.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the double homicide. Authorities have not yet released information regarding a possible motive for the shooting. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Leon Carter and Keith Lawrence. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as the community awaits answers and justice for the two men whose lives were cut short that November night.
