In the early evening of April 10, 2024, the Carver-Langston neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. was shattered by an eruption of gunfire. Aubrey McLeod, a 29-year-old male, was caught in the violence and fatally shot in the 1100 block of 21st Street, NE. The attack, which occurred at approximately 6:08 p.m., was not a targeted assault on a single individual, but a brazen act of violence that left a community reeling and multiple people wounded, including two children.
Eyewitnesses
and the subsequent police investigation revealed a chilling sequence of events. A light blue or gray Toyota sedan, distinguished by dark tinted windows and black rims, pulled up to the scene. Armed individuals emerged from the vehicle and indiscriminately opened fire on a group of people gathered in the area. In the immediate aftermath, McLeod was pronounced dead at the scene, his life cut short in a senseless act. The hail of bullets also struck and injured three other men, a woman, and a 9-year-old boy. A short time later, a 12-year-old boy arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds sustained in the same incident.
The Metropolitan Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. They have offered a substantial reward for tips that result in an arrest and conviction. To date, no arrests have been announced, and the suspects responsible for the death of Aubrey McLeod and the injury of five others remain at large.
