In the early morning hours of June 12, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Navy Yard neighborhood in Southeast, D.C. When police responded to the Unit block of K Street for reports of gunshots around 2:26 a.m., they found evidence of a shooting but no victim. A short time later, a man suffering from gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, 31-year-old Michael Sebastian succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department quickly connected Sebastian's death to the scene on K Street. It was determined that he had been shot there before managing to get to the hospital. A resident of Southeast, D.C., Sebastian was a self-employed consultant. He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, in 1992 and was a father to two daughters.
The investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing, and authorities have not released any information about a possible suspect or suspects in the case. The Metropolitan Police Department has appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident and is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the homicide. Family and friends gathered to remember Michael, known to many as 'Mike,' with a visitation and funeral service held later that month.
