Bakeea Abdulla Douglas, a 34-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on July 3, 2020, in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was a mother of eight children and a grandmother of one. Douglas had moved from New Jersey to North Carolina in search of a better life for her family. Her cousin, Yashika Rogers, described her as a bubbly, fun-loving person who was the life of the party and deeply dedicated to her children.

On the morning of July 3, 2020, Greensboro police responded to a "shots fired" call on North Dudley Street near North Carolina A&T's campus. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Bakeea Abdulla Douglas and Rodney Letroy Stout, both 34 years old, who had been fatally shot. The incident prompted an "Aggie Alert" from the university, advising students and staff to remain indoors with doors locked. The police investigation led to the arrest of Phillip Antoine Stethon Womack, a 37-year-old man from Greensboro. Womack was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was taken to the Guilford County Jail.
The case proceeded to trial, where a Greensboro jury found Phillip Womack guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree murder. Superior Court Judge Stephanie Reese sentenced Womack to life in prison without parole for the murder of Rodney Stout and an additional 365-460 months for the murder of Bakeea Douglas. The trial revealed that Womack had shot and killed both victims on North Dudley Street in July 2020. The conviction brought some measure of justice for the families of the victims, though the loss of Bakeea Douglas, a devoted mother and beloved family member, left a lasting impact on her community.
