Kaneycha Turner, a 19-year-old African American female and freshman student at North Carolina A&T University, tragically lost her life on October 25, 2022, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The incident occurred during a block party on Circle Drive, near the university campus. Turner, along with 15-year-old Ronaldlee Snipes, was shot to death in a mass shooting that also left four others injured.
The victims were identified as Orlando Evon Daniel, 23, Shanobi Carpenter, 21, Willie Lee Blackstock, 22, and Damarquel Ty’reek Jackson, 24.
Turner was not attending the party but was in the area with friends when the shooting occurred. Her roommate, Andreyah Bellamy-Alston, recounted the harrowing experience of being in the car with Turner when the shots were fired. Turner was described as a joyful and kind person, excited for the homecoming celebrations and working two jobs to ensure she could fully participate.
The Greensboro police have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Turner's mother, Latoya Rucker, expressed her grief and called for an end to the violence that claimed her daughter's life. The community, including Turner's high school coach and university chancellor, has been deeply affected by her untimely death.
