On a summer morning in Washington, D.C., the life of 29-year-old Lamont Street was cut short in a hail of gunfire. The tragic event unfolded on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at approximately 11:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. Street was one of four victims in a brazen quadruple shooting that also claimed the life of 50-year-old Jermaine Proctor.
Two other individuals, an adult male and a two-year-old girl, were wounded in the attack but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The child was with her daycare class on their way to a playground when the shooting erupted.
The preliminary investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department revealed a chilling sequence of events. Multiple suspects reportedly exited a vehicle and opened fire on the adult male victims. The incident is believed to be connected to an ongoing conflict between rival neighborhood groups. Prosecutors have suggested that the shooting was a 'very well thought out plan' and part of a 'consistent effort' of violence between individuals associated with Henson Ridge and Alabama Avenue. The violence of that day left a lasting scar on the community, not only for the lives lost but for the innocence shattered as a young child was caught in the crossfire.
In the months that followed, law enforcement made significant headway in the investigation, leading to the arrests of three suspects. Andre Greene, 25, was apprehended in November 2024 and is alleged to have been the getaway driver for the shooters. Authorities also arrested 17-year-old Jordan McClaine and 21-year-old Dionzai Parker. All three have been charged with first-degree murder while armed. Court documents revealed that Greene was allegedly associated with a local street gang and that one of the shooters was a local rapper who had posted on social media with what were believed to be the murder weapons. The investigation continues as police seek to bring all those responsible for the deaths of Lamont Street and Jermaine Proctor to justice.
