On September 14, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the 2200 block of Adams Place Northeast in Washington, D.C., resulting in the death of 44-year-old Erik Mewborn. The incident took place at approximately 1:42 a.m. when officers responded to the scene and found Mewborn unconscious with a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, D.C. Fire and EMS personnel pronounced Mewborn dead at the scene after finding no signs of life.
