On a Wednesday afternoon, the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast in Washington, D.C., became the scene of a violent altercation that left two people dead, including 25-year-old George Evans, III. The incident, which unfolded on March 31, 2021, also resulted in the death of 28-year-old Keosha Ferguson and injuries to three other individuals.
The events leading to the fatal shootings reportedly began with a dispute that escalated quickly.
According to court documents, surveillance footage captured Evans pushing Ferguson and another person down a set of stairs. Following this, another man, 25-year-old Tarik Turner, intervened and allegedly struck Ferguson with a pole. In response, Ferguson is said to have pulled out a firearm and fired, striking both Evans and Turner.
The gunfire did not end there. After being shot, Turner allegedly fired back at Ferguson as she ran through the parking lot, striking and killing her. Evans, wounded from the initial shot by Ferguson, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. In the aftermath, Tarik Turner was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of Keosha Ferguson. He later pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a pistol without a license, claiming he fired in self-defense after Ferguson shot him. The investigation did not lead to any other arrests for the death of George Evans, III, with the available information indicating he was fatally shot by Keosha Ferguson during the altercation.
