However, Davis's family disputes this claim, arguing that the circumstances do not support a self-defense scenario. They point out that Davis would have had to pass through a bulletproof glass and a locked door to reach the clerk, which they believe makes the self-defense claim implausible.
Davis's family also contends that he was shot from behind, which further challenges the self-defense narrative. Despite their requests, the hotel management and Miami-Dade police have not released the video footage.
The motel management has provided a different account, stating that Davis trespassed into an employee-only area and assaulted the clerk before being shot.
