On October 25, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Jacksonville, Florida, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Londun Mungin, also known by his rapper name "Londun2turnt". The shooting took place inside the Valencia Way apartment complex on the Westside, formerly known as Eureka Gardens.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., multiple people called 911 to report a shooting. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found Mungin lying on the concrete near a walkway between the parking lot and an apartment building. Despite efforts to save him, including attempts by his girlfriend and a neighbor to keep him conscious, Mungin was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Londun Mungin was well-known in the area as a talented rapper. Although he didn't live in the complex, he had friends and relatives who did. His death marked Jacksonville's 102nd murder of the year and added to the somber statistic of at least 29 children aged 17 or younger who have been shot in the city in 2023.
The community quickly began to mourn Mungin's loss, with friends creating a memorial at the spot where he died. A neighbor, who had recently complimented Mungin on his music, expressed shock at the young rapper's talent and the tragedy of his untimely death.
City Councilwoman Tyrona Clark-Murray, who represents the district where the incident occurred, suggested that Mungin's association with individuals involved in criminal activities may have contributed to the tragic outcome. She emphasized that the apartment complex itself was not at fault for the incident.
As of the latest reports, no suspect had been named, and the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting remained unclear. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office called the shooting an isolated incident and urged anyone with information, especially residents of the complex, to come forward and assist with the investigation.
