The investigation into Jamie Roque's death revealed that she had been in a previous relationship with Rasheed Ali Karreem, a 37-year-old African American man. Karreem had a history of physical abuse towards Jamie, which led her to end the relationship. On the day of the murder, witnesses described the gunman as a heavy-set Black man with a low haircut, driving a white four-door car. Karreem was arrested later that day on outstanding warrants for other crimes. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reviewed surveillance footage and gathered witness testimonies to identify Karreem as the suspect.
In January 2020, Rasheed Ali Karreem was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder, armed aggravated stalking, and armed burglary. The court found that Karreem had been stalking and threatening Jamie from March to August 2018, and had previously been convicted of drug-related offenses. On November 20, 2020, Karreem was sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison for the murder of Jamie Roque. The case was prosecuted by the State Attorney's Office, and the sentencing brought some measure of justice to Jamie's grieving family.
Throughout the investigation and trial, Jamie's family and friends expressed their deep sorrow and called for justice. They remembered Jamie as a beautiful person who loved life and her family.
