Gary Bevel, a 29-year-old officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, tragically lost his life on May 17, 1983, in Jacksonville, Florida. Officer Bevel was attempting to arrest a woman, Andrea Hicks Jackson, who had made a false report about damage to her car. During the arrest attempt, Jackson shot Officer Bevel six times, resulting in his immediate death. This incident shocked the community and led to a series of legal proceedings that spanned several years.
