On June 2, 2024, a tragic incident occurred at a residence in the Kendale Lakes area of Southwest Miami-Dade, Florida. Jesus Regueira Sr., an 83-year-old man, was one of the four individuals found dead in what authorities have confirmed as a murder-suicide.
The bodies were discovered by a family friend, Joanna Cruz, who entered the home along with her mother. Cruz's mother had been bringing food to Mercedes Morato, Jesus Regueira Sr.'s wife, who was under hospice care following a severe stroke. When they found no response to their knocks, they decided to enter the house using a key.
Inside the home, located at 4510 SW 137th Court, Cruz found the bodies of Jesus Regueira Sr., his wife Mercedes Morato (84 years old), Jesus Regueira Jr. (62 years old, their son), and Kerstyn Marie Stahre (61 years old, Jesus Regueira Jr.'s girlfriend, though family members referred to her as his wife). The bodies were found in different rooms of the house.
According to the investigation, Jesus Regueira Jr. shot and killed his parents and his girlfriend before taking his own life. A firearm was found lying next to Regueira Jr.'s body, which police believe was the weapon used in the murders. The exact timing of the deaths was not immediately clear, but it is known that the bodies had been inside the home for at least a few days, as neighbors reported not seeing anyone from the home since the previous Wednesday.
The incident has left the community and the family in shock. Neighbors described Mercedes Morato as a positive and optimistic person despite her health issues. There were concerns expressed by healthcare workers who had been visiting the home, as they noted that Jesus Regueira Jr. seemed emotionally distressed, particularly due to his mother's condition.
