On July 1, 2024, Treyshawn Wright, a 20-year-old resident of Miami, Florida, was fatally shot while driving a black SUV in the area of Northwest 7th Avenue and 58th Street in Liberty City, also known as Model City. City of Miami Fire Rescue paramedics declared him dead at the scene, where he was found lying next to his vehicle with a gun by his side.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. and was one of two fatal shootings that took place in Miami on the same day.
The other victim, 24-year-old Andre Mitchell, was shot and killed in Little Haiti around 6:30 p.m. near Northwest 2nd Avenue and 52nd Street.
Treyshawn Wright had a significant upcoming event; he would have celebrated his 21st birthday on July 28 if not for the tragic incident. Wright had a previous arrest record, having been accused of second-degree murder late last year, but the case was dropped in January 2024.
Following a months-long investigation, the Miami Police Department arrested five individuals in connection with the murders of Wright and Mitchell. Those arrested include Jamauri James Glover, 23; Sheldred Johnson, 19; Symarri Williams, 19; Manuel Orlando Rivera, 21; and a 17-year-old boy, whose name was not disclosed due to policy. The arrests were made through a coordinated execution of multiple arrest and search warrants across Miami, Miami-Dade, Broward counties, and Atlanta.
Detectives believe that both murders were related to a feud between local gangs. The community and authorities continue to seek information, with Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers offering rewards for any help in solving these cases.
