On January 25, 2024, a fatal shootout occurred at an apartment building in the 4200 block of Northwest South Tamiami Drive in Miami, Florida, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Stefan Iglesias. Iglesias was found in a pool of blood with a firearm near his body and had been shot in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident began when Iglesias walked into the parking lot with a woman named Yanais Almeida, 35.
According to surveillance footage, Iglesias pulled out a gun and started shooting at another suspect who was present. This other suspect, who had been hiding in a concealed area, then emerged and began chasing Iglesias, shooting at him until he was hit by gunfire and collapsed.
Following the shootout, Almeida and the other injured suspect were taken to Coral Gables Hospital with gunshot wounds. They were later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment and were subsequently released.
Almeida and one of the other suspects were found in a car at a gas station on Saturday and taken into custody. Almeida was booked into jail on January 30, 2024, on charges of first-degree murder and robbery. During her court appearance, a prosecutor stated that Almeida had brought Iglesias to the location where the other two suspects planned to rob him of marijuana.
As of the current reports, Almeida has been appointed a public defender and is being held without bond. The identities of the other suspects involved in the incident have not been disclosed, nor has it been stated whether they are facing charges.
