On July 6, 2024, Anthony Maxwell, a 39-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, was found fatally shot after his vehicle crashed into a building on Myrtle Avenue. Police officers responded to the scene of the vehicle crash and discovered that Maxwell had been shot multiple times, which led to the crash. Despite immediate medical attention, Maxwell was taken to a local hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation by detectives from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a suspect was identified. Anthony Brooks, a 57-year-old family member of Maxwell, was determined to be the perpetrator. On July 9, 2024, Brooks was interviewed by the authorities and subsequently arrested on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The arrest marked the conclusion of a swift investigation, highlighting the diligent efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in solving the case.
