On July 25, 2024, deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an unconscious person at 2724 Regatta Drive in Sarasota, Florida. Upon arrival, they found Edward James Dukes, 47, dead inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into Dukes' death led detectives to identify two suspects: Damontae Montrell Tillery, 24, of Sarasota, and Karriem Jermaine McDowell Jr., 23, of Brooksville.
Using various investigative methods, the sheriff’s detectives were able to locate and arrest both men without incident on August 2, 2024, in Sarasota. Tillery and McDowell Jr. have been charged with the murder of Edward James Dukes Jr.
Both suspects are currently in custody at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility. The homicide investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are seeking any additional information that might aid in the case.
