In the early morning hours of August 6, 2023, tragedy struck in Hartford, Connecticut, claiming the life of 23-year-old William Tisdol, a Black / African American male. The incident unfolded on Sterling Street, where Tisdol and another man, Hakeem Dickson, 27, were on the porch of a residence. Around 2 a.m., the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the night, prompting a ShotSpotter activation that drew police to the scene.
Responding officers discovered both Tisdol and Dickson suffering from gunshot wounds. Tisdol was pronounced dead at the scene, while Dickson was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have described the shooting as a targeted, ambush-style attack. They believe there were likely three shooters involved in the incident. Investigators are pursuing what they have described as "very good leads," though no specific suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the double homicide. The shooting was one of two fatal incidents in Hartford that weekend, but police do not believe the cases are related. An arrest was made in the other shooting, which occurred on Wethersfield Avenue.

Just months prior to his death, his father, who shared the same name, was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Springfield, Massachusetts. Additionally, Tisdol himself had been a victim of gun violence before, having been shot and seriously wounded in 2020 at the very same Sterling Street location where he was ultimately killed. His brother is also incarcerated following a police shooting in 2017. Tisdol, a father to twin girls, had recently been released from federal prison in May before his life was cut short. The investigation into his and Hakeem Dickson's murders remains ongoing.
