In the early hours of Sunday, August 11, 2024, the life of Julaquis Minnifield, a 43-year-old Black / African American male from Waterbury, Connecticut, was tragically cut short. Just after midnight, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of Walnut Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Minnifield suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Waterbury Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the shooting was swift, with the Waterbury Police Department's Major Crimes detectives leading the effort. Preliminarily, authorities indicated that they believed the shooting was an isolated incident. By the following day, their investigation had led them to a suspect.
On Monday, August 12, 2024, police arrested 37-year-old Rahe Autry, a resident of Waterbury, in connection with the fatal shooting. Autry was taken into custody and is facing a charge of murder for the death of Julaquis Minnifield. He was held on a $3 million bond pending his arraignment.
