September 9, 2023, when Jeremy Hutcheson was found shot to death on the South Platte River Trail, near the intersection of South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue. His death came just three days after another victim, 31-year-old Lluvia Robles-Banuelos, was found deceased from gunshot wounds under I-70 on the same trail. The connection between the two homicides was not immediately apparent, leaving the community on edge.
The investigation into these senseless killings led Denver police to a significant breakthrough on September 12. An officer patrolling near the South Platte River Trail heard gunshots in the vicinity of West 13th Avenue and North Zuni Street. Although the suspect managed to flee the scene, evidence left behind provided a crucial link. Forensic analysis connected the shell casings from this third incident to the two earlier homicides. This evidence ultimately pointed to one man: Tanner Fielder.
Tanner Fielder was arrested in Black Hawk, Colorado, by a joint effort of the Black Hawk and Denver police departments. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Jeremy Hutcheson and Lluvia Robles-Banuelos. In October 2025, a Denver jury convicted Fielder on both counts.
