In the late hours of a Monday evening in December 2017, the quiet of an unincorporated Arapahoe County area was broken by the sound of gunshots. Deputies from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office were nearby on an unrelated matter around 11 p.m. in the vicinity of 9100 East Florida Avenue when they heard the shots ring out. Their immediate search of the area led them to a grim discovery in a parking lot.
Inside a vehicle, they found 28-year-old Yishak Delessa, a male, suffering from a
gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators remained at the scene, speaking with individuals present to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation took a sudden turn shortly after the incident. A suspect in the shooting placed a call to the Aurora Police dispatch to turn himself in. Just before midnight, at 11:47 p.m., the individual was taken into custody, less than an hour after the shooting had occurred. News of the arrest brought a swift, if partial, resolution to the violent end of a young life.
