On the night of May 16, 2024, a violent altercation inside a Colorado Springs apartment escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 19-year-old Elijah Espinoza. The incident, which unfolded at the Stone Canyon Apartments near East Platte Avenue and North Murray Boulevard, also resulted in the death of 23-year-old Ramon Ruacho and left a third individual with serious, though not life-threatening, injuries.
Colorado Springs Police Department officers responded to reports of
gunfire around 10:00 p.m. and discovered a chaotic scene. One man was found deceased at the location, while Espinoza and the third victim were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, Espinoza succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Investigators have indicated that the shooting was not a random act of violence and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, they are still actively searching for a suspect or suspects involved in the double homicide, which marked the 16th and 17th homicides in Colorado Springs for the year. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
