In the late hours of February 23, 2023, a chaotic scene unfolded near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Hutchinson Street in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. What was initially reported as a vehicle accident with injuries would soon be revealed as a homicide. Responding officers discovered a grey car that had collided with a telephone pole. Inside and near the vehicle were two males, both of whom had sustained gunshot wounds prior to the crash.
One of the victims was 20-year-old Kendrin Hicks.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Deputy Coroner at 11:53 PM. The other male victim was transported to a hospital in Little Rock for treatment of his injuries. The investigation into the incident determined that the shooting had occurred before the vehicle crashed.
Kendrin Hicks' body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death. Despite the ongoing investigation by the Pine Bluff Police Department, no information regarding a suspect or suspects has been released to the public. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have not provided any public updates on potential leads or arrests in connection with the death of Kendrin Hicks.
