In the early morning hours of March 4, 2024, the life of 24-year-old Austen McAfee was tragically cut short in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Just after 3:00 AM, officers from the Pine Bluff Police Department were dispatched to a residence at 2709 S. Georgia following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Austen McAfee unresponsive, having sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
Despite immediate attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene by deputies from the Jefferson County Coroner's office.
According to statements from his family, the fatal encounter began when McAfee noticed someone breaking into his vehicle in the driveway of his home. He went outside to confront the individual or individuals. As the perpetrators fled the scene, they fired at McAfee, striking him with a single bullet. The investigation into the homicide was initiated promptly by the Pine Bluff Police Department.
In the initial press release following the incident, law enforcement officials stated that the investigation was in its preliminary stages. At that time, no information regarding any suspects had been released to the public.
