In the early hours of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, a grim discovery was made on Highway 79 in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Kavon White, a 31-year-old Black/African American male from the Little Rock area, was found inside a vehicle, having suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a call around 12:30 a.m.
directing them to the 9200 block of the highway, where the tragic scene unfolded.
Upon their arrival, deputies found White and a female passenger, both of whom had been shot. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location, but sadly, Kavon White was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner. His body was later transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the official cause and manner of death. The female passenger was transported to a hospital in Pine Bluff for treatment of her injuries and has since been released.
The investigation into this fatal shooting was quickly handed over to the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division at the request of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Authorities have been actively looking into the circumstances that led to the shooting. As of the initial reports, no information regarding a suspect or any potential arrests has been released to the public. The case remains a painful and unanswered tragedy for the family and friends of Kavon White.
