In the early morning hours of July 12, 2024, the life of 30-year-old Jaelin Scott was tragically cut short in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Officers from the Pine Bluff Police Department were initially called to the area of 23rd Avenue and Hazel Street shortly before 2:00 AM following reports of gunfire. A short time later, another report came in about a person who had been shot at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Spruce Street.
Upon their arrival at the second location, police discovered
Scott lying unresponsive in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner. Scott was a father of two and was remembered for his strong work ethic, having most recently been employed at Tyson Foods. He was a graduate of the Dollarway School District where he was an honor student, a drum major in the band, and a participant in both football and basketball.
According to a witness at the scene, Scott had been involved in an argument with another man, identified as Devantre Daniels. The argument escalated, leading to Scott being shot. Following the shooting, Daniels reportedly fled the area in his vehicle.
Pine Bluff police quickly launched a search for the suspect. They located Daniels' vehicle at a residence and were able to take him into custody without incident. Devantre Daniels was subsequently transported to the detective's office for an interview and was later booked into the Jefferson County jail on a charge of first-degree murder.
