On a spring afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, the life of a young Black / African American man, Shakuir Rhaiheem Gipson, was tragically cut short. On April 1, 2023, at approximately 2:40 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of 6th Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders discovered 25-year-old Gipson suffering from a gunshot wound.
