African-American/Black female Mahogany Davis, age 21, was found gravely wounded in the early morning of May 11, 2002, outside the Little Dipper Apartments at 1910 Turner Street in Fairbanks, Alaska. Around 4:15 a.m., neighbors saw her collapse in the parking lot after staggering out of her apartment, and a 911 call brought police and medics to the scene. She had suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported by Fairbanks Fire Department EMS to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Inside her apartment, officers found a chaotic, bloody scene; her children were discovered inside unharmed. The case was immediately treated as a homicide.
Investigators determined that the attack occurred in or around her apartment before she fled into the lot seeking help. In 2015, amid renewed scrutiny of unrelated Fairbanks cases, city officials said investigators would examine potential links between two incarcerated men and the unsolved stabbing death of Mahogany Davis; authorities characterized this as investigative follow-up rather than a formal accusation, and no resulting charges were announced. As of the latest public updates, no arrests have been made, and Davis's killing remains an open, unsolved homicide on the Fairbanks Police Department's books.
