On June 15, 2021, 30-year-old White/Caucasian, Katy Raye Higgins, a female from Fairbanks, Alaska, was found shot to death alongside her fiancé, 32-year-old Heath Logan McCloskey, in a downtown Fairbanks location associated by police reports with the 200 block of Cushman Street. Officers were called just after 2 a.m., after a 6-year-old at the scene used an iPad to reach family members for help; an infant was also present and unharmed.
