In the winter of 2017, the life of 39-year-old Cedric Roy Craft, a Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in Waterloo, Iowa. On the evening of December 11th, authorities received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Courtland Street. When officers arrived at the scene around 8 p.m., they found Craft inside the home, critically injured from a gunshot wound to the head.
Despite immediate medical attention, Cedric Roy Craft succumbed to his injuries the
following day, on December 12, 2017. The incident was investigated as a homicide, and detectives began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Friends and family remembered Craft as a great person and a loving and devoted father.
The investigation into Craft's death led to a significant development when two teenagers were identified as being involved in the incident. Authorities determined that Craft had been shot during what may have been a robbery. The two teenagers were subsequently arrested in connection with the fatal encounter. One was held at the Black Hawk County Jail, while the other was detained at the Black Hawk County Detention Center, marking a crucial step towards seeking justice for Cedric Roy Craft and his family.
