In the late hours of a November night in Waterloo, Iowa, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Keivon Latrell Anderson, a 20-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally wounded by gunfire on November 21, 2022. The incident unfolded on Miriam Drive, where police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found Anderson suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, MercyOne, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The ensuing investigation by the Waterloo Police Department led them to a suspect in the weeks that followed. Eric Hamilton II, a 23-year-old from Mason City, Iowa, was identified as the individual allegedly responsible for Anderson's death. Hamilton was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges in connection with the homicide. He was charged with First Degree Murder, a crime that carries a life sentence in Iowa, and being a Felon in Control of a Firearm, indicating a prior felony conviction that prohibited him from legally possessing a gun.
Following his arrest, Eric Hamilton II made his initial court appearance where the gravity of the accusations against him was underscored by the setting of his bail at a substantial one million dollars. This high bail amount reflected the serious nature of the charges he faced. The legal process against Hamilton commenced as he entered a plea of not guilty to the murder charge.
