At approximately 8:15 a.m., police responded to a call of a shooting near 2800 E. Mobile Lane. Upon their arrival, they discovered Cole on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Known affectionately as 'John-John,' Cole was a beloved figure in his community, a native Phoenician who dedicated his time to mentoring young people as a youth football coach in South Phoenix. His efforts to spread positivity and kindness were well-known, and his involvement extended to various community causes. He was an active participant in the Justice or Else Campaign March and a member of the South Phoenix Baptist Church. One of his deepest passions was the annual Christmas Toys for Tots drive, a cause close to his heart.
The sudden and violent nature of his death sent shockwaves of disbelief and sorrow through his family and the community he served. Described as a devoted son, brother, father, and friend, his loss was profoundly felt by all who knew him. In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was established to assist his family with the unexpected funeral expenses, a testament to the high regard in which he was held.
