On the evening of Thursday, May 27, 2021, a young man’s life was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. Malik Miguel Recasner, a 21-year-old male, was standing outside his apartment in the vicinity of 4700 North 19th Avenue at approximately 10:10 p.m. when he was approached by an unknown male. The assailant, brandishing a gun, demanded money from Recasner.
In a fateful act of defiance, Recasner refused to comply with the demand and turned to walk back to his apartment.
It was then that the suspect opened fire, striking him. The gunman then forced his way into Recasner's apartment, where a woman was present. She managed to hide while the intruder stole property from the residence before making his escape.
First responders arrived at the scene and transported the gravely injured Recasner to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The female occupant of the apartment was not physically harmed during the terrifying ordeal.
Phoenix police officers began a homicide investigation, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the suspect. A reward of up to $1,000 was offered through Silent Witness for information regarding the case. However, the suspect, described only as a male, fled the scene before police arrived and has not been publicly identified. To date, there have been no arrests announced in connection with the murder of Malik Miguel Recasner, and his case remains an open investigation.
