In the early morning hours of November 1, 2020, a gathering in a desert area on Tucson's south side turned deadly, claiming the life of 23-year-old Hispanic male Isidro Fernando Hernandez-Ortiz. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 21-year-old Oscar Daniel Dicochea, unfolded around 6 a.m. in the 2500 block of East Aerospace Parkway.
According to police reports, a large group of approximately 50 people were present in the area when a dispute erupted between two groups.
The confrontation quickly escalated to gunfire. When Tucson police officers, who were already in the vicinity due to reports of gunfire, were flagged down by witnesses, they were directed to the chaotic scene. There, they found Hernandez-Ortiz and a woman, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Tragically, Isidro Fernando Hernandez-Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities later learned that two other men had also been shot and taken to the hospital in private vehicles. One of these men was Oscar Daniel Dicochea, who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The fourth victim sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, many individuals who were present fled the scene before law enforcement could interview them. The Tucson Police Department's investigation into the double homicide is ongoing, and as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Isidro Fernando Hernandez-Ortiz and Oscar Daniel Dicochea. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
