On January 18, 2016, Daniel Leetin Shaver, a 26-year-old man from Granbury, Texas, was fatally shot by police officer Philip Brailsford in the hallway of a La Quinta Inn & Suites hotel in Mesa, Arizona. Shaver, who was on a business trip as a pest control specialist, had been staying at the hotel and had invited two acquaintances, Monique Portillo and Luis Nuñez, to his room for drinks.
