In what Peoria, Arizona police described as a tragic case of domestic violence, 49-year-old Tammy Mattison, a female, lost her life on March 17, 2017. The devastating event unfolded at the Country Village apartments situated near 88th and Peoria avenues, where she was discovered by her 12-year-old daughter. The young girl immediately called 911, reporting that her mother was injured.
A neighbor who came to assist told dispatchers that Tammy was bleeding heavily from her ear and that she had heard a loud bang just moments before.
Upon their arrival, officers found Tammy Mattison on the floor of her apartment with a gunshot wound to her head. She was rushed to a local hospital, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries later that day. The investigation quickly focused on Tammy's estranged husband, 53-year-old David Mattison. The couple had been experiencing relationship issues, which led to them living in separate apartments within the same complex.
The search for David Mattison ended when police found him in his own apartment with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. The case concluded as a murder-suicide when, on March 24, 2017, David Mattison died from the injuries he had sustained. Peoria police confirmed that they believe the incident was isolated to the couple and that there were no other suspects involved in the case. The couple's 12-year-old daughter was placed in the care of family members.
