In a tragic and violent turn of events, 57-year-old Christina Park, a female business owner in Peoria, Arizona, lost her life on a Wednesday afternoon in April. The incident unfolded inside her clothing store, leaving the community in shock. On that fateful day, a young man entered the establishment and spent about ten minutes browsing the merchandise before approaching the counter with approximately $400 worth of clothing.
After Park had rung up the items, the situation took a
horrifying turn. The man, identified as 18-year-old Jourdyn Ford, brandished a. 38 caliber handgun and shot Park in the chest. Not stopping there, he callously walked around the counter and fired a second shot, this time striking her in the eye. Following the brutal attack, Ford grabbed the keys to Park's Mercedes SUV and fled the scene with the stolen clothing. It was about ten minutes later that other shoppers in the store discovered the gravely injured Park. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into the senseless crime moved swiftly. Authorities were able to get a clear image of the suspect from the store's surveillance footage. A Peoria police officer recognized the individual as Jourdyn Ford from previous encounters. A crucial break in the case came when detectives learned that Park's stolen vehicle was equipped with a tracking system. This allowed them to locate the abandoned SUV a few hours later, with some of the stolen merchandise still inside.
The search for Ford intensified, and investigators managed to track a cell phone associated with him to an apartment complex on Indian School Road. With the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies, including Peoria K9 units and SWAT, Ford was located at the complex. After a brief chase, he was taken into custody. During questioning, Ford admitted to the shooting, reportedly asking if Park was dead. He claimed that he became scared after pointing the gun at her, causing him to grip it tightly and pull the trigger. He stated that he shot her a second time because she started screaming. Jourdyn Ford was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery for his role in the tragic death of Christina Park.
