In the summer of 2018, a life was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. On the evening of July 29th, 37-year-old Jessuh Williams was at the Airport Inn, an extended-stay hotel located near 25th and Van Buren streets, not far from Sky Harbor Airport. An argument broke out, and the sounds of gunfire soon followed, shattering the night's calm.
When Phoenix police officers arrived at the scene just before 8 p.m., they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims.
Williams had been shot and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. In addition to Williams, three women, aged 25, 29, and 31, were also found in the hotel room with serious, but not life-threatening, gunshot wounds. A fourth woman, who had left the scene before police arrived, later contacted detectives at the hospital with injuries as well.
Witnesses at the motel reported that the dispute preceding the shooting was over a sum of $100. The suspect, described as a Black male, reportedly pulled out a gun and fired into a large group of people. Despite taking two individuals into custody at the scene, they were later released. The gunman fled and, to date, remains at large. Phoenix police have asked for anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward.
