In the spring of 2020, a tragedy unfolded in a Phoenix, Arizona apartment complex that claimed the life of Janine Lily, a 36-year-old Black / African American woman. On the evening of May 6th, the sound of a gunshot shattered the peace near 19th and Glendale avenues, prompting a swift police response. Officers arriving at the scene witnessed a harrowing sight as Janine emerged from an apartment, suffering from a gunshot wound.
