In the evening hours of May 13, 2020, a verbal argument escalated into deadly violence in a west Phoenix neighborhood, claiming the life of William Jerry Anaya, a 39-year-old Hispanic male. The altercation, which involved two other men, turned physical and ultimately resulted in Anaya being fatally shot inside a home near 36th Avenue and Moreland Street.
Phoenix police responded to a call about a fight at the residence shortly after 7 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Anaya inside the house with a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical aid rendered by firefighters at the scene, Anaya succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify 27-year-old Jonathan Jesse Juarez as the suspect. He was apprehended by authorities early on the Saturday following the incident. Juarez was subsequently arrested and booked into jail, facing a charge of first-degree murder for his alleged involvement in William Jerry Anaya's death.
